Minnesota Receives National Online Learning Recognition
Minnesota was honored as one of the top 10 states in the country for state-level online learning policy and practice based on a survey and review conducted by the Center for Digital Education in 2008. The award recognized excellence in the key areas of funding, number of students served, policies to promote online student access, enrollment trends, licensure reciprocity, K-20 initiatives, online teaching and professional development and alignment with high school reform programs.
Online Charter Middle School Accredited as an IB Middle Years Program
Cyber Village Academy, one of Minnesota's first online schools, has been awarded International Baccalaureate certification for its middle-school program. Cyber Village Academy has a unique mixture of online and classroom instruction. From Monday through Wednesday, students go to school; on Thursday and Friday, they study from home, take field trips, go to libraries or otherwise participate in distance learning.
International Baccalaureate (IB) programs are highly regarded for requiring students to meet high international standards, for their focus on global issues and for their encouragement of students to contribute in their own communities.

The mission of The Ready or Not Writing Program (www.readyornotwriting.org) is to increase chances for post-secondary writing success by assessing high school students' college-ready writing skills during their sophomore or junior year. The Ready or Not Writing Program is designed to identify, assess, and support college-ready writing skills among high school students. The program also provides individual as well as institutional data reports on high-frequency error patterns. Eighth grade students can have their essays reviewed by high school faculty (www.centerforcollegereadiness.org/stepwriteup) and receive written feedback. Both programs are supported by the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system.
